Pink Digital Camera Guide

No sooner had I published my Pink Digital Cameras – New Spring 2009 post than Canon announced the release of three new pink cameras and one new pink photo printer this spring (all are scheduled to reach stores in March). They are all nice, high quality cameras, with a few fun little extras. The portable photo printer “SELPHY CP780″ is available in 3 colors (silver, blue and pink), prints 4×6 photos and lets you choose from five color effects.

PowerShot SD960 IS Digital ELPH
This softly rounded, pale pink model has 12.1 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, a focal length of 28-112mm (35mm film equivalent), 2.8″ screen, 18 shooting modes, optical image stabilizer, face detection and face detection self timer, HD video. Weight: 5.11 oz. Size: 3.85×2.12×0.87″. MSRP: $329.99.
Special feature: Active display technology – switch between images during playback by shaking the camera (sort of like the shuffle on an iPod Nano).

PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH
The fuchsia SD1200 has the classic compact Canon camera shape, and features 10.0 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 35-105mm focal length, 2.5″ screen, 18 shooting modes, optical image stabilizer, face detection and face detection self timer. Weight: 4.23 oz. Size: 3.48×2.16×0.86″. MSRP: $229.99.

PowerShot A1100 IS
The almost purplish pink A1100 is replacing the A1000 and has the same body shape, but upgraded features: 12.1 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, 35-140mm focal length, 2.5″ screen, 18 shooting modes, optical image stabilizer, face detection and face detection self timer. Weight: 5.47 oz. Size: 3.76×2.46×1.22″. MSRP: $199.99.
Special features: Accepts AA batteries (alkaline and NiMH). Has print/share button, ID Photo Print, and Movie Print.

SELPHY CP780
The latest among the portable Canon printers, the small (6.9×3.0×5.2″) and lightweight (2.1 lbs) SELPHY CP780 is both cute and functional. Compatible with Windows and MAC, it produces borderless 4×6 prints (in around 47 sec.) with a resolution of 300×300 dpi. Just hook your camera up (or insert the memory card in the slot on the printer), and print. You can choose from five different color effects – black&white, sepia, vivid, neutral, and positive film – and the printer adjusts red eyes and corrects the brightness and contrast of faces in a photo automatically. There is a 2.5″ screen on top of the printer, so you have a chance to preview the results before hitting the print button. MSRP: $99.00.

There is no shortage of pink digital cameras on the market, but if you still haven’t been able to find one that’s perfect for you, don’t worry – there are even more coming.

Casio, Fuji, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and Samsung all have new pink camera releases scheduled for this spring, and we have put together a short overview of each:

Casio announced that they are releasing four new models: the EX-Z270, the EX-Z400, the EX-S5 and the EX-S12 in March 2009.

One exciting new feature is the “Dynamic Photo” function (in the Z270, Z400 and S12), which makes it possible to cut out the subject in a photo and put it in another photo for a different background, or create a collage using parts of several different photos right in the camera. Other improvements include the new Engine 4.0, with better colors, less noise, auto-tracking of moving subjects, and less energy consumption (=longer battery life). The Z400 and Z270 also have a “makeup” function which smoothes the skin and soften the shadows on people’s faces. Specs in short:

Fuji has announced two new releases this spring: the unusual-looking fuchsia FinePix Z30 (Fuji describes it as “striking” and “ultra-glam”), and the hot pink waterproof (to 10 feet) Z33WP.

Nikon has two new pink cameras on the market: the vibrant deep magenta Coolpix S220 and the elegant dusty pink Coolpix S620.

Panasonic’s pink additions this spring are the Lumix DMC-FS7P and Lumix DMC-LS85P, both scheduled for release in April.

Samsung will release three new pink cameras in March: the SL30, the SL202, and the SL620. The information on these is pretty sparse, but here are a few specs on each:

Sony is adding three new pink cameras to their lineup with releases scheduled for late March and early April. The Cyber-shot DSC-T90, incredibly slim at 0.59″, replaces Casio’s EX-Z75 as the thinnest pink camera on the market (see our Pink Digital Camera Reviews). Other specs:

Most camera manufacturers have caught on to the fact that their customers want cameras in a variety of colors, not just the old black and silver we had to make do with before. Casio’s lineup of point and shoot digital cameras include 9 pink varieties, with 4 more scheduled for release later this spring (post about that to follow – keep checking back). We have put together the basic details for each (note that the focal lengths are 35mm equivalents):

EXILIM EX-Z9

This shiny, salmon pink little camera with a focal length of 28-112 mm was a runner up in our Widest Angle category. Other features include 10.1 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, 2.7″ display, 12.1 MB of internal memory (it also accepts SD, SDHC or MMC cards), 39 best shot modes, face recognition, smile-recognition, blur recognition, movie with audio record, YouTube video mode, and eBay photo mode. It weighs in at 3.92 oz, and measure 3.66×2.16x.0.83″. Battery: Rechargeable lithium ion battery (NP-40).

EXILIM EX-Z150
Also a runner up in our Widest Angle category, the bubblegum pink Z150 has a 28-112mm focal length, 8.1 mp, 4x optical zoom, 3″ display, 17.9MB internal memory (also accepting SD, SDHC, MMC and MMC+ cards), 22 best shot modes, face recognition, image stabilization, movie with audio, and YouTube video mode.
